1. Where is the Brenham Police Department located?

2. When should I call 911?
Citizens should call 911 only for police, fire or medical emergencies only. When calling 911, stay on the line and try to remain calm with your information ready. The Brenham Police Department dispatches for all public safety agencies in Washington County. To file a report or to speak with one of these agencies, call (979) 337-7272.

3. Who do I call to ask about someone who has been arrested?
All information about people in jail can be obtained by calling the Washington County jail at (979) 277-6255. The jail is operated by the Washington County Sheriff's Department.

4. How do I take care of traffic tickets?
To take care of a traffic ticket or a traffic warrant, contact the Brenham Municipal Court at (979) 337-7599. Tickets can be paid at Municipal Court between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Municipal Court is located at 200 W. Vulcan Street inside the City Hall . Arraignments are held every Wednesday at 9 a.m. in the City Council Chambers, third floor of City Hall.

5. What should I do if I'm involved in an accident?
If you are involved in a minor accident where there are no visible signs of injury to persons involved and the vehicles are drivable. then move your vehicle out of the traveled portion of the roadway. Cars left in the roadway contribute to traffic back-ups, which can cause other accidents. Call the police and exchange driver information.
If there are injuries involved, do not move the vehicles or the injured parties. Call 911 for emergency services.

6. Can the police open my car if I have locked my keys inside?
Due to the risk of damage to the vehicle, the Brenham Police Department does not unlock vehicles. If other circumstances exist, such as a young child locked in the vehicle, an officer will be sent to assist in any way possible. Contacting a locksmith is your best alternative in most cases.

7. What are the requirements for child restraints in a vehicle?
Any person who operates a motor vehicle with passengers under the age of two is required to secure those children with a restraining system which meets federal requirements, regardless of whether positioned in the front or back seats. 8. Why did it take the police so long to arrive when I called them last night?
All requests for police services are assigned by priority, based on the type of call. Calls with potential for injury or property damage and calls that are serious in nature or occurring at that time, will be dispatched as soon as possible. Calls that are less urgent or that are belated are considered less of a priority and may be held while officers handle emergencies.

9. Why do you ask so many questions when I call the police?
Receiving dispatchers are trained to try and get as much information as possible to determine the nature of the problem, and its seriousness. This information is necessary for the safety of the responding officers, as well as the general public.
