"Better Understanding Through Education"
The Citizen's Police Academy is one of the programs the Brenham Police Department uses to build a partnership between the department and the community. Classes are held annually to educate interested people about the inner workings of the department. Through the use of tours, lectures, demonstrations and "hands-on" experiences, CPA participants gain insight into the policies and procedures of the department. Citizens in the program can ride with police officers during normal patrol shifts. This gives people a first hand look at what officers deal with on a daily basis. An example of topics covered include Patrol Procedures, Criminal Investigations, Hostage Negotiation, Narcotics Enforcement and D.W.I. Enforcement.
The annual class begins in January and is held on Thursday nights lasting approximately thirteen weeks. The class is held at the Brenham Police Department and is open, free of charge, to anyone who lives in Washington County and is at least 17 years of age. The resulting partnership between citizens and officers furthers our efforts to improve the quality of life for everyone in our community. For more information about the CPA program, contact Cpl. Tommie Nettle at (979) 337-7324 or tnettle@ci.brenham.tx.us.
